I just looked at the fight card again and realized almost every fight I would like to see is airing on facebook and I’m going to be at work then so I won’t get a chance to see them. I lost almost all interest in this event. Of the four fights I will be able to watch, I’m going to pick Belcher, Brookins, McGee and Ellenberger. I’m not feeling prophetic enough to give rounds or means. And I’m feeling too lazy this morning to give reasons.

The early fights on this card were really good. The later fights weren’t bad but they belt a little anti-climatic. Up until these fights I’d been doing great at predicting how the fights would end and when, but not who would win them. That ‘skill’ went out the window with the Main Events, I have no clue how to score my predictions, half points for partially correct guesses? I broke .500 though, picking four out seven winners from the last two preliminary fights and the main event.

Pearson vs. Barboza

First round I’d give to Pearson, the second round to Barboza, but either round could go for either fighter. It’s been a good stand up fight so far.

Now for the third round.

Another close round. Barboza’s striking is a bit more effective but Pearson is the one pushing forward through the whole fight and keeping the center of the octagon. I’d probably give this to Barboza 29-28, but it all depends on what the judges think, I’m just some idiot on the internet. Pearson’s bloody face will probably help give Barboza the fight.

….and the results….. (everytime Mike Goldberg says “Acaiiiii” I laugh)

And Barboza wins but one judge thought otherwise. A good fight and yet another fight where I predict the way when and how but get the who wrong.
2-3.

Rua vs. Griffin

Damn. This over too quick. It wasn’t a bad stoppage. I just wanted to see more of a fight between these two. Forrest didn’t look too good in this fight at all, it looked like he never got a chance to get comfortable in the fight. I predicted Shogun would win by a knockout but I thought Griffin would hold out a lot longer.

3-3.

Silva vs. Okami

Once again I was too dismissive in my prediction of a fight. Silva looked really good in this fight and he ended it quickly. I should have known there was no chance this would go the distance. I still don’t think Silva’s fight are that exciting though.

4-3

I’m through the first two fights and my Nostradamus like skills have taken a partial blow.

Cane vs. Nedkov

Wow. This is a surprise. The brawler beats the technical striker. Cane was looking good, he had Nedkov bloodied up from some nice combinations, but Nedkov clipped him with an overhand right and was able to finish it in the first round. I did not see this coming, especially form the way the fight had been going up until Nedkov got in that punch. I’d like to see Nedkov fight again, I don’t think that the punch was a fluke or a lucky shot but I would like to see him in a bit longer fight.

I guessed when and how this fight would end, but I got the fighter wrong. Opps.

2-1.

Nogueira vs. Schaub

Opps. Again the fight ended how and when I thought it would but with the wrong guy with his hands raised. I guess I thought a little too much of Schaub’s icon slaying journey. Of course seeing Big Nog fight in this fight he is still more relevant than Cro Cop, I shouldn’t have thought that because Cro Cop could be beaten quickly that Nogueria would be the same way. That’s good though, because I like Nogueria and would love to get to see him fight a few more times.

2-2. 100% on when and how the fights would end but not who would win.

Palhares vs. Miller

Crazy fucking fight. I’ve been a little dismissive about the Millers but after this fight I’m a fan of Dan Miller. I hate to say something as stupid as this, but the heart he showed in this fight was phenomenal. The fact that Palhares thought he won the fight in the first round and started to celebrate when the fight was still going on, and then that Miller seconds later almost ended the fight. The painful to watch second round where Miller just got brutally beaten. And then the judges scores. It was no surprise that Palhares won the decision but how do three judges come up with 29-27 30-27 30-25. One judge thought Miller won a round, but then must have given in an 8 in the second. One thought it was a clean sweep for Palhares, but thought Miller earned a 9 in the second round when he was being brutalized, and the third must have given Miller a 7 in the second round. A crazy fight. If you want to see two rounds of some non-stop brutal action then go find this and see it (I hate that I said crazy fight, when I was trying to rewind to make sure I heard the judges scores correctly I kept skipping to spots where I’d hear Kenny Florian saying, “crazy fight”. Oh well.

Oh, and guessed this one correctly across the board. 1-0 for me, along with way the fight would end.

Tavares vs. Fisher

My prediction for this fight is barely literate. Maybe my summary of the fight will be too. I should really start proof-reading this shit before posting it on the internets.

Fisher’s looking like spastic Clay Guida. Does he always fight this way, I don’t remember him being so jerky with Guida’s overly caffeinated-esque style.

Ha! One of the search terms that got someone to my predictions was, “fisher tavares fight fucking lame“

Partway through the second round I agree, it’s not the greatest fight ever, but that’s ok, so far all of the fights on this card up until now have been better than average.

Oh, remember how I say bad things about the facebook fights in most of my predictions? That is only because I can’t watch them because I’m at work, but because of the hurricane and the pre-emptive shutting down of the NYC public transportation I was able to watch all of those fights!! An unexpected day off and the chance to see a handful of really good fights. Ok, back to the Tavares / Fisher fight…..

….One minute later……

What the fuck? It’s over? After the beating Miller was given in the last fight and Herb Dean didn’t stop it (rightfully, so), Fisher gets tapped a few times in the head while being mounted and the ref waves off the fight. It wasn’t like Fisher was knocked down and stunned, he was blocking, it didn’t look like he went limp.

There has been some questionable calls on this card (yes, I did say the fights were good, but I think the refs have been less than good, and the judges as seen in the previous fight are as wonky as usual). Mostly, I think the refs have been jumping the gun on standing people up in the facebook fights, I get that some people are bored with ground fighting, but most of the calls to stand the fight up so far tonight have been very very premature.

Back to this fight, bad call I say, but the bad call did get me a second perfect prediction! Yay me! Watching the fight up until it got called I thought it was going to be a boring clinch fight with Tavares winning the decision just because he was holding Fisher down for most of the fight.

2-0 me. 100% across the board so far.

Oh, and as of the end of the Spike preliminaries I’m fairly sure that a Brazilian has won every fight (this isn’t so impressive when you realize about half the fights on facebook were Brazilian vs. Brazilian).

I haven’t done any fight predictions for awhile now, I think I’ve missed two or three big events. But, I’m going to try to see if I can pick some winners for the UFC’s return to Rio.

I’m only going to focus on the prelim fights airing on Spike and the main card.

My lazy predictions? The Brazilians win every fight they are in. My almost as lazy and non-objective predictions are as follows:

Palhares vs. Miller

I don’t know. Both have lost fairly recently to Nate Marquardt. I don’t really know too much about Palhares, but I think his ground game is going to be stronger than Miller’s. Two ground guys though could mean the fight will stay on the feet and neither really has an advantage. I’m going to say Palhares by decision. I have no strong feelings on this one though.

Tavares vs. Fisher

Spencer Fisher has a tendency to surprise me in fights. Usually when I think he’s going to do well he ends up losing and vice versa. In this fight I think he’s going to bring an upset in a knock-out victory over Tavares. I think Fisher has fought some better fighters and while I like Tavares and think he’s going to have the whole home-crowd thing going for him I’m going to predict a technical knock out in the second round.

Cane vs. Nedkov

I’m going with the Brazilian in this one. I don’t know jack-shit about Nedkov but Cane looked great in his last fight and his veteran UFC status plus fighting in Brazil I say equals another first round win by stoppage.

Pearson vs. Barboza

Hello swiss-cheese memory! Apparently I saw Barboza fight live but I can’t remember his fight at all. I must have gotten distracted for fifteen minutes and started reading Joan Didion. He’s undefeated and Brazilian but I’m going to go with the fighter I know more about. Lets say Pearson by a decision, and hopefully this fight will help me remember who Barboza is in the future.

Nogueira vs. Schaub

If the world were just Nogueria would win this fight. He deserves to win in this homecoming type of situation, but I think this fight is going to go the same Cro Cop fight back in March. Nogueria is going to be another aging legend that Schaub is going to knock down. Nogueria’s last win was against Randy Couture, but against younger fighters he hasn’t had a win since 2008. Schaub I see being too powerful for Nogueria and because it’s a heavy weight fight I predict it to be over in the first round. Schaub by TKO.

Rua vs. Griffin

Forrest Griffin is probably my favorite UFC fighter, at least personality-wise. I’d love to see him win but I think he’s going to be a punching bag for Shogun in this match. My prediction? Griffin takes an unreal amount of punishment for two rounds and then gets knocked out in the third. Shogun wins and puts the Jon Jones fight behind him. That said, I would like to see Griffin win, I don’t think it will happen though.

Silva vs. Okami

Who do you think? I’m waiting to see the fight that Anderson Silva loses but I don’t think this is it. Okami is being hyped as Silva’s toughest challenger because he is the last man to beat him. Yeah, I don’t think that means too much though. Silva has become a fairly boring fighter to watch, but the boringness has also made in unstoppable. He’s patient and he keeps himself out of danger. Unless Okami can figure out a way to push the pace and away Silva’s control of the fight this will be another fairly boring but very technical win for ‘the Spider’. I’m predicting a long drawn out fight with Silva winning by decision. I’m also predicting that this will not be the fight of the night.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I started writing this review on paper, with a pen about a week ago when I was having a lot of trouble with my laptop. What I wrote in the hour I was on break was mostly about my experiences reading this book on the Nook touch, the third generation device put out by the company that gives me my paycheck each week. I was borrowing one of these for a couple of days, and I borrowed it expressly so I could read Scattershot, which the kind people at Seedpod emailed to me so I could review it.

Does anyone really care to hear my semi-luddite ramblings about electronic devices you read on? I didn’t think so. I will say that I had some awesome points in the rough draft that had to do with the misuse of our language in the marketing of these devices to the public. Those glorious and not so profound points though will die in my notebook, or maybe pop up somewhere else but for now they aren’t important.

I felt it was a disservice to this book, the author and the publisher to use the review as yet another platform for me to rant about ‘e-readers’ (I seriously hate that term, anytime you see the word device you can think Nook, Kindle or whatever other brand of thingey’s one would use to read a book without paper).

This is the very first book I read on a device. I could have read it on my computer but after reading the first twenty pages or so I realized that I wasn’t enjoying the experience very much. I will admit I enjoyed reading on a device more than I enjoy reading for an extended period of time in front of my temperamental laptop. For now I will just comment that this is all slightly relevant because this is only available as an e-book. We’ll come back to that later though.

The book itself. I had a lot of fun reading this. I think if twenty-two year old Greg had read this he would have wet himself over it, but nearing middle-age Greg enjoyed it too, just not as much as my younger self would have. The book falls into the same category that I’d place Bukowski, John Fante (and quite possibly Dan Fante, who I haven’t read but I think would fit here), or The Motel Life by Willy Vlautin or Joseph Mattson’s Empty the Sun, which I don’t know exactly how to sum up nicely but as pretty straight forward, ‘muscular’ / masculine, anti-hero / loser stories. One thing that separated Scattershot from most of these other books is it didn’t end up glorifying the chemical abuse aspect. There was some drugging and some drinking but there wasn’t much of a romanticism put on it.

The premise of the book is so outlandish and borderline stupid that as soon as you hear it you want to groan for the poor fictional character who would actually go through with doing something like this. But, I’ve known more than one person who has thought up dumber ideas than this and tried to act on them in the real world, that I could picture some friends from my younger days doing something like this that I found it quite believable. Wicker, the main character, is a twenty something year old loser who has a talent in beer bongs (I’m not sure if this talent extends to making them or just doing them, but he does state this as his main skill at one point) who doesn’t like to work and has the stunningly awesome aspiration of growing his hair long enough so he can put it in a pony tail, because he thinks it would look good and and easy to care for. All his belongings he’s put into a storage unit, he’s no longer able to pay the rent on the storage unit and his mom’s ashes are in the unit. In order to pay the back rent and get his mom’s ashes along with the rest of his junk out of storage he needs money and he figures the easiest way to get money is to goto Las Vegas and win one of the jackpots playing the slots. Armed with a book telling you how to beat the slots he’s off hitchhiking to Sin City to make his money.

What a stupid idea. To play slot machines to make serious money. If I hadn’t gotten almost suicidally depressed once in Vegas while watching rows of white-trash rednecks playing the slots and video poker with the look of desperation and at the speed of people playing not to have fun but to try to pay their rent at Sam’s Town once I might think that this isn’t an idea someone would normally have. But with some of my experiences watching friends make similarly stupid decisions to bail themselves out of money trouble and witnessing one of the most depressing things I’ve ever watched in Vegas I know that Wicker isn’t an absurd creation or anomaly, but someone that could very well be sitting his ass down in The Tropicana right now to with dreams of hitting the right combination that will alleviate all his woes.

To get to Vegas he gets a ride with a scatterbrained elderly woman suffering from mild dementia who he convinces to drive him from Los Angeles. She’s an endearing character with a strange grasp on reality and as the novel goes on becomes attached to Wicker and the unravelling of his original plans. A third major character is the elderly woman’s son, a sad-sack dentist who likes looking at some sort of weird porn on the computer and who also heads to Vegas trying to track down his mother and bring her safely home. In his own ways he’s as much of a fuck-up as Wicker and his own life starts to unravel as his life gets shifted off of it’s mundane middle-class tracks because of Wicker and his plans to make good with the one armed bandit.

There are some great scenes in this book and I’d talk about them some but I think it would give away too much plot and I don’t want to do that because I’d like you to read this one. Hearing that this book is an e-book only release and that it is Bukowski-esque could be a big flag that one should avoid this at all costs, neither of those two things usually bode well for a very enjoyable reading experience but this novel is well-written and well-edited. It doesn’t feel like an e-book (which in my head I always think of as being one step below the horrors that descend upon readers in the form of self-published / vanity books) and it doesn’t get stuck in the muck of the ‘look how fucked up I am’ frat-boy-ishness that followers of Bukowski can easily fall into. No. This is a good book!

When I finished reading it my one major gripe was that it was only an ebook and that I couldn’t order it into the store, I couldn’t bring it down to the daily show-and-tell meetings at the store, that it couldn’t one day sit on one of Karen’s tables, and that I couldn’t possibly buy a copy and let it live on my shelves. I thought, what a shame it’s not a ‘real’ book, but then I said, ‘bad, Greg’ this is a real book. It’s a very good and real book even if it’s only available in processed zeros and ones. And also it’s a pretty cool thing that Seedpod is doing, they are releasing a small number of well edited, nicely formatted books in the electronic format and are able to sell them for a relatively low price with little of the risk normally involved by traditional publishers. I think that’s a pretty cool DIY / independent sort of thing to do, even if it makes me feel a little uncomfortable because I’ll need to either invest in one of these device things or train myself to read books on my computer. I sort of feel like I’m being left out of the cool possibilities publishers have by my own prejudices but for everyone out there who doesn’t hate devices like I do I’d recommend checking this book and publisher out. It’s good to see some quality stuff being produced exclusively for this new medium.

The ppv fights….

Condit vs. Kim. Kim by decision.

I’ve been impressed with Kim’s last few fights, which isn’t surprising, he’s done an amazing job against Nate Diaz and he’s 14-0. I’ve picked Kim’s opponents to win in his last few fights though. Tonight I’m going to finally pick Kim, but I don’t think that Condit is any type of slouch and “The Natural Born Killer” is being coached by Jackson. I’m expecting this to be one of the two best fights on this card (“The Ax-Murder” vs. “The Crippler” as the other).

Condit’s sweep to mount from a half-butterfly about a minute into the fight was great, I watched it over and over again, unfortunately Condit couldn’t capitalize on the great position he achieved from the sweep and Kim was back to his feet seconds later.

Fuck was I wrong in picking this fight. Condit knocks out Kim with a flying knee, about three minutes into the first round, that was almost as beautiful as his sweep earlier in the fight. This wasn’t quite the fight I expected but it was awesome to watch.

Ortiz vs. Bader. Bader, first round stoppage by strikes.

Is this a joke? Ortiz as top carded fighter? Bader as the challenger? Ortiz is a humorous fighter, and I love some of the t-shirts he used to wear to piss off Ken Shamrock and the Lion Den fighters and yeah, some of his fights ‘back in the day’ were good, but when is the last time he’s done anything of note in the octagon? They tout him up as the UFC champion who held onto the belt the longest, but that is just time, much of the time he had the belt there were really long periods of time between fights. Apparently this is a do or die fight for Ortiz and his UFC career, except by some kind of fluke punch I don’t see him beating anyone that is in their prime. I don’t love Bader as a fighter, and I don’t think he’s ever going to be a champion fighter in the light heavyweight division, but he’s a good fighter and should have no trouble stopping what is hopefully Ortiz’s final attempt at keeping himself in the Octagon.

Haha! In the pre-fight video, Ortiz says he wants the belt again. I can’t imagine what a fight between him and Jones would look like. Ortiz would be steam-rolled over by Jones. The only light heavy-weight possible contender I could see Ortiz beating is maybe Forrest Griffin if Griffin is having one of his off nights.

Ortiz starts the fight off looking really stiff.

What the fuck? Ortiz wins, he catches Bader with a solid shot and then chokes him out when Bader stumbles. Ok, so once again tonight I’ve been wrong but the shot Oritz landed was something of a fluke and seemed to be more a product of luck and carelessness on Bader’s part than really crisp good stand up for Ortiz, but a win is a win and Bader did nothing (or had the time to do anything) in this fight.

Ortiz’s victory ‘digging and burying’ schtick is really retarded, but I’ve got to say after rewatching the fight a few more times I think Ortiz had a solid performance, I’m not sure if it was sloppiness, luck or skill that got the punch to land for Ortiz, but after the first minute of the fight, Ortiz loosened up and won quickly and decisively. I’m actually curious to see what his next fight will be like and I won’t just feel slightly embarrassed for a guy who seems to be so obviously past his prime still dragging himself into the octagon (seriously he hadn’t won a fight since October 2006 before this, and I don’t buy the, he was only fighting top tier talent).

Siver vs. Wiman. ?? I have nothing for this one. Lets say Siver by second round submission, I have no idea if that makes any sense though.

Ha! Another stupid prediction. Siver is a kickboxer, why would I think he’d win by submission? Because I talk out my ass.

The first round I have nothing to say about. It was pretty uneventful, it could have gone either way, Siver had some good stand up and nice kicks, but he never really dominated in any way. Wiman had a fairly good take down towards the end of the round, with the round being so uneventful the take down might have given the round to Wiman. But the second round……

Oh Shit! This was a fucking gorefest. A couple of minutes into the round Wiman got on top of Siver and just demolished him. From the fucking guard!! I can’t think of seeing such a brutal beating of elbows and hammer fists delivered while being in someone’s closed guard (or at least not since I’ve had enough of a clue to understand some of the dynamics of fighting on the ground). Siver’s guard was one of the weakest I’ve ever noticed in an MMA fight. Wiman delivered a series of elbows, cut Siver up pretty badly and continued for the rest of the round to beat on Siver at will. At one point Wiman tried and failed to pass to side control, it was surprising that Siver was able to stop Wiman from doing so, since an easier task with the open guard is controlling an opponents posture, which Siver wasn’t able to do at all. Wiman probably thought he could easily pass the guard after the beating he’d delivered, but it didn’t matter if he got into what is normally an advantageous position since he was wrecking Siver from what is considered a neutral position in bjj.

Joe Rogan loves saying, “so and so just gave a clinic in blank”, well, Siver just delivered a clinic on how not to fight off your back and the importance of keeping your legs closed to help control someone’s posture when they are in your guard. Keep it tight!

I’d probably have given the first round to Siver, I’m not a big fan of scoring the win for a fighter who is able to just get a big take down in the dying seconds of a round, but a lot of judges seem to like that. The second round I would score as 10-8 for Wiman.

Siver’s ‘corner cam’ in between the second and third round was hilarious in it’s obviousness.

The third round was fairly uneventful compared to the second. Wiman spends most of the round trying to take Siver down. Siver fights off most of them and when he finally does get taken down he pops right back up with the hip escape he should have done in the second round. Siver ends the round getting in a few good shots and with Wiman in an arm in guillotine. Nice ending for Siver. I’d give him the round just because Wiman wasn’t able to get the take downs he kept trying for, and and the one take down was more just pulling guard. By my scoring the fight was a draw, 10-9, 8-10, 10-9….. but the judges think differently and in a What the Fuck did they See that I didn’t See decision they gave the victory to Siver (which I guess makes sense by more scoring if you don’t give Wiman a 10-8 for the second round).

Apparently Justin Beiber is with me in thinking the fight should have gone differently. I think he thought Wiman won though and I think it should have been a draw.

Silva vs. Leben Silva second round stoppage from strikes

“My style is to go in there and kill the guy” – Wanderlei “The Ax-Murderer” Silva from the pre-fight video.

I love “The Ax-Murderer”! Easily he’s my favorite UFC fighter, and probably ahead of Fedor as my all-time favorite MMA fighter (ask me this question on a day I’m about to watch a new fight by the “The Last Emperor” and I would probably say Fedor beats out Wanderlei, but since Fedor doesn’t fight in the UFC I can put Wanderlei as my favorite there with no qualms). I’m so fucking excited to see him fight Chris “The Crippler” Leben, I know that he could lose, but this should be an awesome fight of two brawlers just going in and beating the shit out of each other, hopefully with neither of them taking a step back until one of them is out cold.

I loved Mike Goldberg’s comment as Wanderlei Silva stepped into the octagon, “How good is our job?”, “Oh man, it doesn’t get any better than this, baby,” replied Joe Rogan, “You’ve got that right, buddy” and Goldberg answered.

Oh my. The two of them went at each other. Neither stepped back and Wanderlei Silva was brought down with a sort of Muay Thai series of upper cuts (you know holding on to the head while delivering upper cuts) and then finished him quickly on the ground. Wanderlei got in a couple of good shots coming in, but the whole thing was over so fact. This was fight was sort of like Christmas as a kid, lots of anticipation, pretty decent while it’s going on but ultimately over way too quick.

But, could that have been the best twenty nine second fight in UFC history? Leben and Silva each fired off a slew of monster shots in that short fight. Wow.

Cruz vs. Faber. Cruz by decision.

I don’t care much about Cruz, but I hate Faber. Just look at him, he looks like a fucking douche-bag and his team is called Team Alpha Male. I don’t care who wins this fight but I want to see Faber get his ass kicked, his face bloodied up and that fucking California smile of his demolished.

I have no idea how to score this one. I’m too biased to wanting to see Faber lose. This was a close one. Super-fast paced. Almost no ground, all standing. Cruz moves around like a Clay Guida, with constant unorthodox movement that made me a little tired just watching. Faber never seemed to really get his timing down so he was mostly just reacting for most of the fight, this is what I think would give the fight to Cruz. While waiting for the decision I saw that Cruz writes out his nickname as “Domin8r’, which is super-lame and up there with tattooing your last name in giant gothic letters across your stomach. I can’t support someone who does shit like that. Based on my personal biases I’d have to want both fighters to lose. But even with my new found disgust at the whole ‘Domin8r’ thing, I think that Cruz should maybe possibly be given the decision. What I’d ideally like is for their to be a featherweight champion whom I’m not annoyed with.

Cruz wins and then the first thing he does is give all his praise to god. Please, can someone who I don’t dislike please be a contender for the 135 pound division.

Spike Prelims.

First off, I find the Bud Light Lime logo in the middle of the octagon to be very very distracting, the color is pretty awful, especially when you can see the pads along the door to the octagon where they are also colored in the ‘lime’ color. The lime green is also just different enough from the MuschlePham green to clash in an uninteresting way. The color looks good on the octagon girls though, maybe it just makes them stand out a bit more and less like wall paper in your grandparents house that you just don’t even see anymore because it’s always there looking the same.

Sotiropoulos vs. Dos Anjos. Sotiripoulos? Lets say by decision.

Ha! I was wrong. A first round knock-out from a big right hand counter.
I should have used my default way of picking fights and chosen the TUF alumni to lose.

Guillard vs. Roller. Roller by decision.

Opps, I only realized when the Spike fights started that Guillard is being coached by Greg Jackson. If I had remembered that, or done any research I would have chosen Guillard to win, instead I was thinking that some of Guillard’s fights looked kind of tired, but those weren’t his recent ones. I’m saying all of this before watching the fight, while the very entertaining Pre-Preliminary fight between Njokuani and Winner is being aired; this fight is a great technical stand-up show. I’m usually not a big fan of very technical stand-up fights maybe that is because too many of them are strictly boxing based but Njokuani is ‘putting on a Muay-Thai clinic’ (to sound like Joe Rogan).

Second opps. I really should do some research before publicly making predictions. I thought that with 40 something fights in his career that Melvin ‘the Young Assassin’ Guillard was a not-so young assassin, but more like a middle-aged assassin who should probably be thinking of hanging up his gloves before he gets hurt. Well, apparently Guillard isn’t in his mid to late 30′s, and isn’t Shonie Carter (I never really thought he was Shonie Carter but for some reason I thought he was on the ‘comeback’ season of TUF, (but he was on the second season of TUF which I watched in the same binge as the fourth season of the show). So, um, yeah, Guillard is only 28.

As the introductions are being made I’d like to change my fight prediction to Guillard in third round stoppage from strikes.

A fast fight. Guillard wins by TKO, it was like Roller never even got into the fight. I was pretty close in my revised prediction, although the fight went a lot quicker than I expected.

In recent big MMA events it seems like most fights are going to decision, these two quick fights in the Spike preliminaries were a big surprise. Will the pay per view fights continue this trend? I can only hope, I’d love to see Faber and Ortiz get knocked out in embarrassingly quick fights.
